Rubbish Areas in Funabashi
I’ve been looking lots at the rubbish areas around where I live. The ones along this main road are kept immaculately clean, the the various bags for separating trash rolled up and put in plastic pipes when they’re not in use. In the danchi, things are different. There’s an area where everyone from one block throws their rubbish, a kind of cage, and because you can do it anonymously, there’s more abuse of the system. Rubbish that’s not supposed to be thrown away there is just left secretly in the night.
Here’s an old chili bottle hanging on another rubbish area. I couldn’t figure out why it was hanging there.
Here’s a can hanging by another bag. Aha! It shows which bag is for glass rubbish and which one is for can rubbish. The trash is all separated here, into metal, glass and burnable. Funabashi city is less strict than some places about how much the trash has to be separated. In my last city, Sakura, all the plastics had to be washed and put into a different bag. Funabashi let’s you put the plastic in with the burnable stuff, as long as it’s not pet bottles.
