Crazy People in Japanese Train Stations
Once Upon a Time, A Long Time Ago, I was standing in Inage-Kaigan station waiting for a train. It takes a long time there for a train to come, and all there is to entertain you is the pi-pong noise telling blind people where the stairs are. Japanese train stations are special places, where the percentage of crazy people is a little higher than the rest of the country, and I saw one of those people that day. He was standing in front of a metal column, hitting it with his fist again and again. I didn’t want to look, but he just stood there hitting this post repeatedly. A long train started coming through the station and I figured it would cover the noise of my camera opening, letting me take a movie of him. It was a long train, maybe passing through the station for about 2 minutes. I was glad that it covered up the sickening squelching sound his fist had begun to make.
