Drip Attachment in Tokyo Underground

Last weekend there was crazy wind and rain all over Tokyo. After visiting a friend, we had to take a long detour through the Tokyo underground to get back. In one of the stations (maybe Kayabacho) they’d rigged up a drip to stop the water falling from the ceiling onto the platform and causing accidents. [...]

Pecha Kucha Night in Roppongi

I’ve been wanting to go the Pecha Kucha Night in Tokyo since I heard about the concept. They accept presentations on just about any topic, and everyone has just 6 minutes to present a talk with 20 slides. You can talk about whatever you like, but everyone tends to talk about slightly artistic stuff.

Since it [...]

Some Stickers Near Funabashi

A couple of odd stickers I noticed while cycling. They were tiny and old and the only reason I even saw them was because the traffic light was red. When I showed it to someone to translate, she told me it gave off a bad feeling. It looks like a voodoo sticker to me. The [...]

Yellow Sands Blow Across Japan

Lately the wind has been strong, and as happens every year, the sands of the Gobi desert have been blowing everywhere. Everything is covered in a fine dust and it seems like everyone is coughing and sneezing from the combination of hayfever and dust.

Strange Bicycle Cart Near Akihabara

It looks like a homeless person’s mobile home, with all the possessions in the back. On each side, there was a handwritten poster with various messages. Above [...]

Nice Shot Shacho!

Nice Shot Shacho (ナイスショット社長!) is what you must absolutely say to your boss after each golf shot he makes, no matter how good or bad it it. To get that nice shot yourself, you have to start practicing at an early age, at any opportunity you can, even in the station waiting for the train.

There [...]

Rubbish Areas in Funabashi

I’ve been looking lots at the rubbish areas around where I live. The ones along this main road are kept immaculately clean, the the various bags for separating trash rolled up and put in plastic pipes when they’re not in use. In the danchi, things are different. There’s an area where everyone from one block [...]

Abandoned Cigarette Shop

Here’s an old abandoned cigarette shop I came across on the road between Hasama and Funabashi. It looks like it’s been this way for years, but the price of a pack of cigs written on the poster is ¥240, so it can’t be that old. Now a pack is somewhere around ¥320 I think.

The location [...]
